SOCCOAST Requirements and Student Agreement

SOC Requirements

Service members Opportunity Colleges (SOC) affiliation guarantees continuity and transferability. Dallas TeleCollege is proud to be a SOC-approved network provider and core member of the SOCCOAST-2 Network, the Service members Opportunity Colleges-Coast Guard (SOCCOAST) network of colleges offering associate degrees programs to the Coast Guard.

SOCCOAST: SOC's College Degree Plan for the Coast Guard

Enrolling in a SOCCOAST college gives you a number of benefits:

  • A "home college" that evaluates your prior learning experiences (including Coast Guard schools, Rates and Ratings, and national tests)
  • A clear degree plan, and only one college's graduation requirements to meet
  • Guaranteed transfer of courses as you move among SOCCOAST colleges during the course of your Coast Guard career. You don't have to start over with a different college, evaluation, and set of degree requirements every time you relocate—all of your credit is transferred back to your home college, which grants your degree when you've finished your degree plan.
  • Your Coast Guard schools and work experiences (Rates and Ratings, NECs) are evaluated for possible college credit using a reference from the American Council on Education (ACE) entitled Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the Armed Services (ACE Guide).

SOCCOAST Student Agreement

  • A SOCCOAST Student Agreement is the form on which the home college makes a complete evaluation of the college credit you should receive on the basis of your Coast Guard rate and rating, testing, and other courses taken. It also lists courses remaining to be completed and serves as your checklist for future studies at SOCCOAST network colleges anywhere else in the world.
  • The SOCCOAST Student Agreement is your contract, your degree plan, and a road map to program completion. Your home college will give you a copy to take with you; keep it and have it updated as you continue your studies.
  • You are not considered a SOCCOAST student, and you do not have the SOCCOAST transfer guarantees, until you have been given a SOCCOAST Student Agreement by your home college.
