Military transcripts are evaluated according to the American Council on Education (ACE) Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the Armed Services, the standard reference for recognizing learning acquired during military service. - recognized exam credits from AP (Advanced Placement), CLEP (College Level Examination Program) and DANTES (Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support) tests, for up to 75 percent of a degree (approximately 45 credit hours).
SMART Transcript
- You are eligible for a SMART transcript if you are on active duty, reserve, or are a veteran of the U.S. Navy who has been separated since January 1975.
- The Sailor/Marine/ACE Registry Transcript (SMART) transcript documents military training and occupational experience and comes in two versions: official (institutional) and unofficial (individual).
- SMART is an academically accepted record that is validated by the American Council on Education (ACE), whose primary purpose is to assist service members in obtaining college credit for their military experience. SMART has replaced the DD295, the Application for Evaluation of Learning Experiences during Military Service, which is the form currently submitted to colleges by Sailors and Marines to verify their military experiences. The DD295 may still be necessary to document some training and experience that is not contained in and cannot be added to current personnel and training databases.
- More than 2,300 colleges and universities recognize ACE endorsed transcripts as official documentation of military experience and accurate records of applicable ACE credit recommendations. The ACE Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the Armed Services is the standard reference for recognizing learning acquired during military service.
- Any college credits you have previously earned will be listed on your SMART transcript, and each institution will evaluate your transcript to determine what credit can be applied toward degree completion.
- Please note that you will need to order an official or institutional version of SMART (not a personal, or unofficial, one). The institutional version is sent directly to Dallas TeleCollege.
