SOCNAV Requirements and Student Agreement
Service members Opportunity Colleges (SOC) affiliation guarantees continuity and transferability. Dallas TeleCollege is proud to be a SOC-approved network provider and core member of the SOCNAV-2 Network, the Service members Opportunity Colleges-Navy (SOCNAV) network of colleges offering associate degrees on or accessible to Navy installations worldwide.
SOCNAV: SOC's College Degree Plan for the Navy
SOCNAV programs with traditional classroom study can be taken at almost all Navy installations. You can also study anywhere using SOCNAV’s distance learning option, which is where Dallas TeleCollege excels.
SOCNAV was designed to build on your Navy training and experience, and was developed specifically for enlisted personnel whose Navy rate, rating and schools may have already earned them college credits.
Your Navy schools and work experiences (Rates and Ratings, NECs) are evaluated for possible college credit using a reference from the American Council on Education (ACE) entitled Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experiences in the Armed Services (ACE Guide). See how SOCNAV credit (http://www.soc.aascu.org/socnav/MilCredN.html) is granted for military experience and tests.
- Your SOCNAV Student Agreement is your contract, your degree plan and a road map to completion of your college degree.
- To be considered a SOCNAV student and receive the SOCNAV college transfer guarantee, you must complete a SOCNAV Student Agreement with your home college. Your home college is where you begin your studies; you do not have to take more than 25 percent of the program with your college and these courses can be taken with the college at any time and anywhere, even at sea. The home college evaluates your Navy rate and rating and other learning experiences, combining them all into a SOCNAV Student Agreement that serves as your contract-for-degree. When you have completed your study plan, the home college awards you a degree.
- Your home college will give you a copy of your SOCNAV Student Agreement to take with you; keep it and have it updated as you continue your studies.
